My Nutrition Story
Hey there. I'm MyAsia, your Certified Holistic Nutritionist.
As a Certified Holistic Nutritionist, I'm trained in natural complementary nutrition, where I am able to:
Coach, Consult and Advise clients on how to identify and help correct the nutritional causes of health complaints, and design personalized diet and lifestyle programs that optimize their health.
I'm very passionate about this because I have gone through a process of ridding myself of the habits that seemed to be alright with me, when in reality, my body was rejecting them all along.
If you have experienced aches, pains, bloatedness, flare-ups, up-set stomach, excessive weight gain, fatigue after meals, and more then you have come to the right place.
Read a little further on my journey, and how all of this came about.
What is Seborrheic dermatitis?
As mentioned, all my life i suffered from seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis on the face Seborrheic (seb-o-REE-ik) dermatitis is a common skin condition that mainly affects your scalp. It causes scaly patches, red skin and stubborn dandruff. Seborrheic dermatitis can also affect oily areas of the body, such as the face, sides of the nose, eyebrows, ears, eyelids and chest.
The one thing that I am grateful for is the visit I took to the dermatologist to understand what was going on with my skin and scalp. It helped me to no longer guess what it is that I could have, but gave me reassurance.
My scalp condition flared up often. At any given time on any given day, I would scratch my skin and scalp to the point that I would forewarn people to "not pay me scratching my skin/scalp any mind". That was my way to not put any focus on me when I was out and about.
So what does my scalp have to do with my health?
In July 2017, I decided that I needed to loose weight. It was all motivated by trying on dresses for my best friends wedding, and not being able to fit the 12, and 14 size dress although I knew that was my size. Now I know Davids Bridal dresses are not made to fit African American true to size, but not being able to even get the dress up my thighs was really discouraging. So, I decided to start by changing what I was eating.
I decided to do something I had never done before. I had decided to cut out processed foods and sugars, or anything that had the ingredients high fructose corn syrup: especially sodas and to my surprise, I lost 10 lbs easy. I also cut out chicken turkey pork beef and fish, and started working out 2 to 3 times a week and lost 10 more pounds. From July 2017 to January 2018, I was in grind mode, working to implement better habits. February 2018 until now Summer 2019, it feels good to say that I've maintained keeping the 20-25 pounds off.
How did I lose weight?
Well, I've learned to love what I put in my body. Ive also come to realize that eating dairy, eggs, butter, and meat has been directly tied to the scalp condition, which I never felt like I could maintain, let alone get rid of. In having Seborrheic dermatitis, there are episodes of skin reactions suddenly flaring up and then periods when they go away. One thing I've learned during that season was owning what I have, and making the decision to stay away from foods that trigger it. One being, reducing my intake of inflammatory and Allergen Foods.
To help keep inflammation as low as possible, I grew to understand how important it is to keep my lifestyle as unprocessed as possible. To focus on eating whole foods, to minimize my intake of packaged and processed foods known to worsen autoimmune reactions and allergies, including:Added sugar and sweetened beverages.Processed oils like corn, soy, canola, safflower and sunflower oil. Fried foods and trans fats.If you’re prone to allergies, foods like refined grain products made with wheat, conventional dairy, shellfish and peanuts.
What did I do with all that I have learned?
I have learned that all of the foods mentioned above, I must stay away from in order to be my best self. It not only affected my over health, or my body physically but emotionally as well. The stress, anxiety, and overwhelming feeling that comes from a flair up is like no other. This is why I've grown to love God even more for allowing me to love meal prepping.
I introduced salmon or wild-caught fish back into my life on occasion for the fatty Omega 3 acids that also help my scalp. Wild-caught fish doesn't affect my body in any way when it just steamed with no added oils mentioned above. I choose to eat it on average one a month, and not a weekly thing. I've really grown to love fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes on a whole different level. So, no I don't consider myself vegan but plant-based with fish on occasion.
I went back to School
Living a plant-based life has its days, but I'm here to say, it's here to stay. If you have a scalp condition or one like above I challenge you to push pass your sweet tooth, and snack cravings, to see how happy your skin and body can be.
After a year of getting myself together God encouraged me to go back to school, and in July 2018, a year after going on this journey I registered through the American Fitness Professionals Association (AFPA) to study Holistic Nutrition, and in June 2019, I became Certified.
Myblessedhands Products
One of the great things that came from being in school was the launch of my products that are now available for sale on Etsy or locally in Philadelphia.
My Herbal Scalp Treatment was made to not only reduce inflammation but to heal the scalp (with proper changes from the consumer). You cannot expect change if you don't change. It's not a quick fix, it helps your scalp as you help yourself. If you use it, but still eat the same foods that's causing it, then you'd be waisting your time, money, and my product. This is why I am here to educate you on the proper way to go about making internal changes, eating habits, and helping you to see that once you commit to wanting to feel and look better from the inside out, the rest is just a daily practice.
My Wart Salve was created to heal wounds, cracked skin, bug bites, eczema, and the like. If you have a bug bite, the wart walve would help bring whats infected to a head and out without any hard work. When you use it at night, within 12 to 24 hours, you'll see it transform right before your eyes.
